At The Open Arts Center, we will meet each individual with an open heart and caring presence. We understand that every person is unique and comes from a different background, all are worthy and deserve a safe place to cultivate community, belonging and a strong sense of self.
Curiosity
Our goal at The Open Arts Center is to meet every individual with an open mind and shared understanding that when individual’s follow their own inner curiosity and intuitive desire, they will have more passion and excitement for learning, creating and cultivating community.
Empowerment
Young people deserve the opportunity to serve in leadership roles where their voices hold just as much weight as adults. We plan to create a Youth Board that will meet alongside the Adult Board, as well as offer opportunities for mentorship and employment.
Validation
We acknowledge that every individual’s physical, mental and emotional experience is valid. We will strive to meet each person where they are and create an experience where they can thrive. This includes offering diverse spaces and accommodations to meet the needs of different preferences and learning styles.
Inclusivity
We believe every person, no matter their race, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, religion, neurological and mobility differences deserves a place to foster creativity, community and belonging. We honor and celebrate the diversity of our community.
Reciprocity
We believe in the power of mutual respect, responsibility and trust. Youth will be expected to help with daily responsibilities in maintaining the space and encouraged to consider how they wish to show up, participate in, and give back to their communities.
